Information on Covid-19 (Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2) and its effects on the TUHH

Dear colleagues, dear students,

All areas of the Hamburg University of Technology are accessible. All local restrictions are to be indicated (notice board, digital information).

The buildings of the TU Hamburg are open for employees and students in restricted operation, as far as the hygiene concept does not foresee any further restrictions. Orders and deliveries are possible. Deliveries of hazardous materials are possible under the regulations of normal operation.

The most important information at a glance

  • An official directive of the President on the regular operation of the TU Hamburg under pandemic conditions dated 30 November 2021 applies.
  • Persons who show symptoms (e.g. cough, fever, diarrhoea) that could indicate a COVID-19 infection and who have not been medically cleared are not allowed to stay at the TU Hamburg. If you test positive for COVID-19 in a PCR test, please inform coronamelden(at) immediately.
  • Please note: Outside the workplace (office, laboratory, workshop) as well as during lectures, a FFP2 or medical (surgical) mask must be worn by all persons in the general circulation areas in the buildings (e.g. foyers, corridors, lifts etc.) of the TU Hamburg as well as in the library. In other areas this is required if compliance with the minimum distance of 1.5 m cannot be guaranteed throughout. For events and gatherings of any kind (laboratory events, permitted teaching, etc.), the highest maxims are compliance with the 3 G rule (vaccinated, tested or recovered) and the wearing of a medical mask.
  • In order to minimise the risk of infection, the following regulations must be observed in the public areas of the TU Hamburg:
    • Use the hand disinfectants provided in the entrance areas of the buildings to hygienically disinfect your hands after entering the buildings.
    • Wear a medical mask. The obligation to wear a medical mask is indicated by appropriate notices.
    • Observe the distance signs.
    • Lifts may be used by a maximum of two persons on condition that both wear a medical mask. In addition, all persons present are requested to use the lifts as little as possible so that they are available to those persons who are indispensably dependent on them.
  • The main route of transmission for coronavirus is droplet infection via the respiratory tract and mucous membranes. In addition, transmission is also possible indirectly via the hands if they are used in contact with the mucous membranes of the mouth or nose and the conjunctiva of the eyes. To prevent infection, the following hygiene rules should be followed:
    • Regular and thorough hand washing for 30 seconds (see
    • Adhere to coughing and sneezing etiquette (cough and sneeze into the crook of your arm and preferably turn away from other people to create the greatest possible distance).
    • Keeping your distance
    • Do not touch the mouth, nose or eyes with your hands.
    • If possible, do not touch publicly accessible objects such as door handles, lift buttons with your full hand or fingers.
    • No touching, handshaking or hugging.

  • The computer centre is open under restrictions. For opening hours, protection and hygiene measures, please refer to the RZ homepage.
  • The refectory is open with restrictions. Further information is available from the Studierendenwerk.
  • For employees and students returning from trips from risk areas, the obligations for isolation according to the Coronavirus Entry Ordinance apply, as well as any supplementary country-specific quarantine obligations. Before entering the university, employees and students are instructed to inform themselves about the obligations that apply in Hamburg and to behave according to the applicable requirements. Due to the special nature of the current risk of infection, supervisors are authorised to ask employees whether and, if so, when they have been abroad for a longer period of time. In the event of travel warnings, the consequences of private travel abroad (e.g. domestic quarantine) are the sole responsibility of the employees. This means that if it is not possible to work in the home office due to the quarantine measures, this must be compensated for e.g. by leave or the reduction of overtime on the part of the employees. Employees in home quarantine shall inform the personnel department immediately and contact their superiors. Professors inform the respective dean's office in addition to the personnel department. These regulations refer to international risk areas. No restrictions currently apply to stays or returns to/from areas within Germany that exceed a critical incidence value according to the RKI. Should pandemic developments necessitate a reassessment of the situation, employees and students will be informed immediately.

Where do I go if I test positive for Corona? (New December 10, 2020)

If you have tested positive for Corona, please send an e-mail immediately to the mail address coronamelden(at) Please try to answer the following directly: Name, date of the positive test, possible contacts/meetings at the TUHH and/or attended courses with the name of the lecturer/tutor including the building/room/date and time.

Information on the use of the library, computer center and the canteen  (Update May 21, 2021)
Since 19.05. the use of the workplaces is possible again. opening hours: Mon - Fri 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Cleaning takes place at 14-15 hrs. Due to the change in the floor space parameters, the number of workstations in the upper reading room had to be reduced to 67. According to the valid ordinance, the following rules apply:

§18 Cultural facilities

(4) For the operation of museums, memorials, galleries, exhibition halls, libraries and archives, the following regulations apply

For libraries that are only open for lending, the requirements according to sentence 1 numbers 3, 6 and 7 do not apply.

This means that those who only lend are registered, but do not need a negative rapid test.
Events (Update October 25, 2021)
The TU Hamburg buildings are open as long as the hygiene concept does not impose any further restrictions. Events on the outside grounds can only be held with the approval of the Occupational Safety, Environmental and Health Protection Office. Further information can be found here.
Business trips/study trips/excursions / returning from abroad (Update June 29, 2021)

Information on Teaching

Information on Teaching (New 22.10.2021)
At TU Hamburg, teaching is predominantly face-to-face. Hybrid and digital formats and courses are still possible. The Infection Protection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetz) in its current version must be taken into account. Examinations, in particular final examinations, are not teaching in the sense of the Infection Protection Act (IfSG) and remain unaffected by this. The same applies to research activities, activities in laboratories and similar facilities.

Classroom events permitted under the Containment Ordinance, as amended from time to time, shall take place in compliance with the following protective and hygienic measures:

  • The top priority for holding attendance events is compliance with the 3G rule (vaccinated, tested or recovered). Participation in courses or other offerings in closed rooms is therefore only permitted upon presentation of a negative coronavirus test certificate, a coronavirus vaccination certificate or a convalescent certificate. It must be possible to prove identity by means of an official photo ID (e.g. identity card, passport).
  • A medical mask in accordance with § 8 HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO must be worn during the presence event; lecturers may remove the mask.
  • Before the start of an event, the 3G rules are explained to all participants with a slide, see here, and a ban from the premises is named as a consequence of non-compliance on the basis of the EVO.
  • Compliance with the 3G rule will be checked on a random basis. In the event of non-compliance, a ban from the premises will be issued, followed by a written ban from the premises for four weeks. The TU Hamburg premises must be left immediately. In the event of a repetition, the ban will be extended to the entire semester and participation in a presence examination is also not permitted.
  • The inspection is carried out by students accompanied by caretakers. The caretakers have the right of domicile. If necessary, they will take the student's personal details and issue an immediate ban. The written ban is then issued by the President or the Registrar.
  • Examinations and written examinations are to be held in large rooms if possible.
  • When entering and leaving seminar and examination rooms as well as lecture halls, the distance requirement should be observed as far as possible and a medical mask must be worn.
  • During examinations/examinations/courses, a sufficient supply of fresh air must be provided. If no technical ventilation is available, the room should be ventilated several times an hour.
  • In the case of face-to-face examinations, the TU Hamburg may stipulate that masks are not compulsory, provided that the distance requirement is observed after taking a seat.
  • For participation in face-to-face examinations, the examining institution may also stipulate that, in the case of submission of a PCR test, the test on which the test result is based may not have been taken more than 24 hours previously or that the test must have been taken on the same day. Sufficient time must be allowed for cleaning and airing between two consecutive events.
  • Students are required to leave the university buildings immediately after the end of the event/examination.

In the winter semester 2021/2022, the TU Hamburg is authorised to collect and process contact data of participants of courses on their status as recovered or vaccinated persons according to § 10h HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO (2G-Status). In doing so, it must be ensured that unauthorised third parties cannot gain knowledge of the data. The use of the contact data for purposes other than those specified in the HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO as well as their disclosure to unauthorised third parties is prohibited. The records of contact data must be destroyed or deleted after four weeks at the latest, in the case of data on 2G status as soon as storage is no longer necessary, but no later than two weeks after the end of the winter semester 2021/2022. Further information on the collection of contact data can be found in §§7 and 22 of the HmbSARS-CoV-2-EinämmungsVO. The general regulations on data protection must be observed.

Definition of vaccinated and recovered:

Fully vaccinated and recovered persons are on an equal footing with tested persons according to decisions taken at federal level. The obligation to be tested for attendance events no longer applies to this group.

Depending on the vaccine used (a vaccine approved in the EU), full vaccination protection only occurs from the 15th day after the first (e.g. Johnsen & Johnsen) or second Corona vaccination (e.g. Biontech, Moderna). Vaccinated persons must be able to present appropriate proof. In the case of vaccinated persons, this is the vaccination card or a vaccination certificate in German, English, French, Italian or Spanish as a paper document or in digital form (§ 2 para. 5 HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO in conjunction with. § 2 COVID-19 Containment Exemption Ordinance).

All persons who have recovered from an Corona infection that occurred at least 28 days and a maximum of six months ago or who have received at least one Corona vaccination with an approved vaccine after the previous infection are considered to have recovered. For those who have recovered, proof of recovery is required. This is a certificate in written or digital form, in German, English, French, Italian or Spanish, stating that a previous infection with the coronavirus has been determined on the basis of a PCR test and at least 28 days and a maximum of six months ago. Those who have recovered and whose infection with the coronavirus dates back more than six months must also submit proof of corona vaccination (see above) with at least one administered vaccine dose.

Obligatory testing for attendance events: Persons who wish to attend attendance events at the university and who have not been vaccinated or have not recovered may also be admitted if they have
  • have previously carried out a self-test on the same day under the supervision of the university with a negative result (see next paragraph),
  • have carried out a rapid antigen test in accordance with § 10 d HmbSARS-CoV-2-EmmungsVO at an approved test centre and have had a negative result confirmed, whereby the underlying test must not have been carried out more than 24 hours previously, or
  • present a PCR test that complies with § 10 d HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO and was carried out no longer than 48 hours ago.
Appropriate proof must be carried with you during your stay on campus and shown on request. In addition, an official photo ID (e.g. identity card, passport) must be carried and shown.

A free self-test conducted under the supervision of the university is offered to students in building E, room E 0.046, if they have already been vaccinated or recovered but have not yet reached full vaccination status or recovered status.

The test centre in Building Q (Am Irrgarten 7) is open until 31.10.2021, Monday to Friday from 7:30 to 12:30 and also on Fridays from 14:00 to 18:00. There is a charge for this service. From 1 November 2021, the nearest test opportunity will be the Hansa pharmacy at the Heimfeld S-Bahn station. There, tests will be offered Mon.-Fri. 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. for a fee without prior appointment.

Free tests are offered at the test centre for the following groups of people:
  • Persons who cannot be vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 due to a medical contraindication, this includes pregnancy.
  • Persons who have not reached the age of 18 at the time of testing.
  • Students from abroad who are staying in Germany to study and have been vaccinated with vaccines not recognised in Germany.

In addition to the relevant regulations, the following protective and hygiene measures apply to practical activities:
  • If a routing (e.g. one-way) has been determined before the start of the internship, this must be communicated to the students in advance.
  • If several internships take place that have the same access area, they should start and end at different times if possible. If necessary, a meeting point is to be agreed in a separate area, which is to be communicated to the students before the start of the internship.
  • Tools and work equipment that are used by several people are to be cleaned after use. Wiping with conventional cleaning agents is sufficient for this purpose. However, disinfection is not necessary after consultation with the AMD.
  • The rules of the protection concept and the rules for the correct use of a medical mask according to the recommendations of the Federal Centre for Health Education (BZGA) are to be integrated into the instruction of the students.
  • Whether further infection protection measures are required must be determined, if necessary, within the framework of a supplementary risk assessment.

Before entering an event room, all participants must register for these events via a QR code "May I come in" or another specified system.

Information for Employees

If I have already been vaccinated - If I have already recovered - what should I watch out for? (New: 15.9.2021)
There are three categories for those who have recovered and who have been vaccinated:
  • People who have been vaccinated twice (from 14 days after the second vaccination appointment)
  • People who have recovered from Corona (corresponding certificates are issued by the health authorities)
  • People who have recovered from Corona and who have also received a vaccination.
These three groups are relieved that they no longer need a quick test or self-test. You are exempt from the obligation to test. For all employees, including vaccinated and recovered people, the President's instructions from September 15th 2021 and the TUHH's hygiene concept, i.e. keep your distance and wear masks, as well as the home office rules, continue to apply in full.
Home Office (Update December 3, 2021)
The principle applies that employees may only enter the TU Hamburg if they have been vaccinated, recovered or tested and have a corresponding valid certificate with them, have it available for inspection or have deposited it with the office. It is sufficient here if the validity of a test certificate exists at the time of starting work. If a test certificate loses its validity during working hours, the service does not have to be terminated prematurely, but can be terminated as scheduled. If no 2G status can be verified or if this is not desired, it is mandatory to report to the functional mailbox arbeitsplatznachweis(at) every working day whether work is being done in the home office or in presence. A home office report should be submitted by the start of core time, i.e. by 10 am. Before entering the TU Hamburg or immediately at the start of work, a valid test certificate must be presented to Mr Robbert (preferably digital: arbeitsplatznachweis(at) This obligation (home office notification or proof of test) only applies to days on which you have to perform work. It does not apply to days on which leave or time off in lieu has been granted or for which incapacity for work exists. In the case of part-time employment, this obligation applies analogously only to those days on which work must be performed.

Suitable organisational measures must be taken to minimise contact. All employees shall be offered the opportunity to work in a home office, provided that there are no urgent official concerns to the contrary. Urgent official concerns are given, for example, if tasks can generally only be carried out on site (e.g. caretaker or technician services, classroom teaching, etc.). When deciding on a home office, the fulfilment of official duties must be ensured. A balance must be struck between maximum protection of employees on the one hand and official duties and social-communicative processes on the other. Employees are obliged to accept the offer of a home office if there are no important personal reasons to the contrary. The employer or principal is not obliged to check the correctness of the reasons given. The agreement on home office shall be made between the supervisor and employee in writing (e.g. in writing by e-mail).

As a matter of principle, teaching should continue to take place in presence according to the 3G model. In this respect, teaching is considered a service task for the lecturer, which takes precedence over the home office duty. The employer can therefore not offer you a home office for the times when you perform tasks in face-to-face teaching.

A quota of up to two self-tests per week is provided for employees working in (partial) presence at the TU Hamburg, which can be requested by the institute, administration and service area managers via eMail (hygienematerial(at) Self-tests help to detect a possible Corona infection at an early stage and thus limit the spread of the pandemic. They do not replace the official test certificates issued by authorised bodies (pharmacies or test centres) that are required for compliance with the 3G rule in the workplace. In traffic areas, corridors, hallways or tea kitchens etc. there is an obligation to wear a mask according to §10a of the Hamburg SARS-CoV-2 Containment Ordinance.
Wearing protective masks, e.g. at the workplace or during meetings, can be dispensed with if all persons present are vaccinated or have recovered (2G rule) and maintain a distance of at least 1.5 m and the rooms are regularly ventilated. Another prerequisite is that all persons present agree not to wear protective masks. Furthermore, it must be ensured for such meetings that the traceability of the persons present is guaranteed.
Job interviews in staffing and appointment procedures (Update June 29, 2021)
Selection interviews and hearings in appointment procedures shall be conducted in digital form wherever possible. For selection interviews in presence, the current hygiene and protection measures apply.
Business Travel  (Update June 6, 2021)
In principle, business trips are permitted. It is strongly requested that business trips to "virus variant areas", "high incidence areas" or "risk areas" be avoided. An up-to-date list of areas can be found on the RKI website. When travelling abroad on official business, travellers are advised to inform themselves about the country-specific, possibly host institution-specific, corona-related regulations. The special obligations for entry from a risk area according to the Coronavirus Entry Ordinance must be observed. If seclusion is to be observed after entry, work is to be continued in the home office for the period of seclusion. Before starting a business trip to a risk area, teachers must ensure that teaching and examinations are carried out via a substitute during the period of isolation.

Rapid Antigen Tests (New: 16.3.2021)

Rapid antigen tests are a complementary measure in workplace infection control. They can help to detect SARS-CoV-2 infections at an early stage and thus mitigate the spread of the virus. Due to their lower sensitivity and temporary significance, PoC rapid tests and self-tests cannot and must not replace PCR tests or lead to circumvention of the applicable infection protection measures. In addition, it remains the case that individuals with symptoms of respiratory illness with suspected SARS-CoV-2 infection must stay away from the workplace. If there is a suspicion of a SARS-CoV-2 infection, which can result in particular from fever, cough and shortness of breath, the affected persons must be requested by the employer to leave the workplace immediately and, if necessary, to seek medical treatment.

A positive result with a rapid antigen test initially only represents a suspicion of a SARS-CoV-2- infection. However, it is not yet a diagnosis of SARS-CoV2-infection. The diagnosis is made only by the subsequent PCR test and medical evaluation.

The person tested positive must immediately go into isolation and immediately arrange for a check by means of PCR test and medical assessment (e.g. by the family doctor or a testing center). This is important for the benefit of the person tested positive, since on the one hand this is the only way to establish a reliable diagnosis and on the other hand, in the event of a false positive result, this can be quickly refuted. A negative test result is always only a snapshot. It must not lead to a false sense of security and the neglect of protective measures.

The significance of a negative rapid test result is also limited. The sensitivity of the test procedures is not sufficient to prove a complete absence of viruses. Rather, the statement means: the person tested is not highly infectious at the moment the sample is taken. Due to the rapid increase in the amount of virus at the beginning of an infection, this can change within a short time. Therefore, the "validity" of a negative test result is very limited in time. In the case of intensive contact, transmission to other persons cannot be ruled out even if the rapid test result is just negative.

The performance of rapid tests therefore does not allow the protective measures of the hygiene concept to be suspended under any circumstances. It must be well explained within the company that even repeated tests with negative results must not lead to neglect of the necessary protective measures.

The rapid antigen tests are not suitable for use by contact persons to circumvent or shorten a quarantine on their own responsibility.

How do I get my selftest (Updatet: 23.10.2021)
  • As an employee, report to your superior. As a supervisor: Determine the number of employees working in presence in your organizational unit (institute / unit / service area) and report this number to by email to This mailbox is activated since 23/03/2021, morning. Please also report the delivery address.
  • We will deliver the self-tests for your institute / unit / service area for a period of four weeks via in-house mail within two to three days.
  • The tests should be stored between 2°C and 30°C and protected from direct sunlight.
How do I apply the test? (New: 30.3.2021)
  • Employees perform the test themselves. It is not intended that supervisors, colleagues, etc. carry out the test. The test kits contain nose swabs (short swap) and instructions for use. Please proceed as described in the instructions for use.
  • The tests are reserved for official use and should not be passed on.
  • Dispose of the packaging separately as usual and the used test material via the residual waste. Use tear-proof, moisture-resistant and leak-proof containers (e.g. sealed plastic bags).
What if the rapid-test is positive? (New: 30.3.2021)
  • If the result of the self-test is positive, please remain calm. Immediately inform your supervisor (if possible by telephone, but in any case in compliance with all hygiene rules) and colleagues with whom you work.
  • Report via the TU functional mailbox (with name, date of positive test, possible contacts/meetings at TUHH and/or attended courses with name of lecturer/tutor:in including building/room/date and time).
  • Put on an FFP2 or CPA mask, if available, but in any case a so-called OP mask, and please go to your apartment by the shortest route and there into domestic isolation.
  • If possible, avoid public transport and keep a generous distance from other people. Please arrange for a PCR test via your family doctor or the hotline 116 117 ( to check the result of the self-test.
  • Until the test results are available, please remain in isolation at home. Please follow any instructions and orders issued by the Health Department. Absence from Duty: As a precaution, the employee should remain in isolation at home until the PCR test result is available.
  • Until a negative PCR test result is received, the individual is considered SARS-CoV-2 positive and must be placed in home isolation.
What is the aim of the test offer? (New: 22.10.2021)

This offer is a relgulation on the part of the employer. Neither do individual employees have a right to self-quick tests, nor is there a legal obligation on the part of employees to perform self-quick tests themselves.
The self-quick tests are an offer to increase the safety of the presence work required according to the aforementioned standards. The performance of a self-quick test is not intended to override applicable containment and hygiene rules for employees who test negative (no "free testing"). The performance of self-quick tests serves only as a supplementary offer to make the presence service or field service appointments safer.
A negative rapid self-test does not release the employee from the obligation to comply with the regulations in force to contain the pandemic (in particular the obligation to wear a mask, distance rules).

General questions on teaching (New 29.9.2021)

The winter semester is fast approaching. We are pleased that the current pandemic situation and the experts' assessment make it possible to hold the winter semester largely in attendance. The essential legal framework for this has been set down, while some details for the implementation are still in coordination. The following regulations were presented to the Academic Senate on 22.09.2021 and are currently valid:

  • All participants must register in each event room via "Darfichrein" app or in paper form so that tracking is possible in the event of infection.
  • All participants of face-to-face events must be able to prove one of the three Gs (recovered, vaccinated, tested). This applies equally to students and faculty.
  • The 3G rule will be verified by spot checks. These will be implemented primarily through unannounced checks in courses, and other means of checking are still under consideration. Computer pool rooms and library are also subject to the 3G obligation and will be included in the checks.
  • A possible sanction for persons found without one of the 3G is a house ban. If this is imposed for the remainder of the semester for multiple violations, it will also mean exclusion from exams offered in attendanc.
  • It is currently being investigated whether the testing center in Building Q will continue to operate and whether free testing can continue to be offered there for a transitional period for students who are not yet fully immunized.

Information for Students

General Questions about TUHH’s Studies (Update October 22, 2021)
  • Students with pre-existing conditions or disabilities: Individual measures are to be taken for students with certified pre-existing conditions or disabilities that indicate a severe course of disease in the event of a COVID-19 infection or that make it impossible to wear a mouth-nose covering. If participation in an attendance event (e.g. examination, laboratory exercises, etc.) cannot be made possible by individual protective measures, the affected students should immediately report to the lecturer responsible for the course.
  • Pregnant students: The maternity protection regulations also apply to female students. Accordingly, it is also essential for pregnant students to observe all protective and hygiene measures, which may have to be supplemented by individual measures. Pregnant students who have to attend a course and for whom no adequate protective measures are possible should immediately report to the lecturer responsible for the course.
  • Are there perhaps alternative possibilities to the basic practical course, since it is not really possible to do this at the moment? Or can it perhaps be made possible to register for the Bachelor's thesis beforehand? (As of 29.10.)
    In July, the deanery committees decided on an amendment to the respective basic internship regulations, according to which it is exceptionally sufficient for students of the cohorts up to and including WiSe 2019/20 to submit proof of their basic internship only at the end of their studies. If the internship regulations do not regulate anything, you should ask the Internship Office directly. The Internship Office decides on the recognition of an internship.
Questions on Wintersemester 2021/22 (Update 22.10.2021)

General Questions

  • What will happen in winter semester 2021/22? Will the winter semester also be digital? (Status 21.10.2021)
The winter semester 2021/2022 will take place between 01.10.2021 and 31.03.2022 (start of lectures 11.10., last day of lectures 29.01.2022) in presence. Digital formats will then support this attendance semester as far as it makes didactic sense. We want to get the best out of the digital semesters. The teaching schedule can be adapted again depending on the pandemic situation..
  • What rules apply for the winter semester 2021/2022?
    See "Information on teaching (New 21.10.2021).
  • Which Corona rules apply in principle in the coming semester?
    In the coming attendance semester, the 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, tested) applies for participation in courses.
In principle, the distance rule will continue to apply. If the spatial conditions do not permit this, the distance can be waived.
Persons present in closed rooms are required to wear a medical mask, with the proviso that lecturers may remove the mask for the moment of speaking. More under "Information on Teaching (New 21.10.2021)".
  • Is the TU Hamburg allowed to request personal data before courses?
    In the winter semester 2021/2022, the TU Hamburg is authorised to collect and process contact data of participants of teaching events regarding their status as recovered or vaccinated persons according to § 10h HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO (2G-Status). In doing so, it must be ensured that unauthorised third parties cannot gain knowledge of the data. The use of the contact data for purposes other than those specified in the HmbSARS-CoV-2-EindämmungsVO as well as their disclosure to unauthorised third parties is prohibited. The records of contact data must be destroyed or deleted after four weeks at the latest, in the case of data on 2G status as soon as storage is no longer necessary, but no later than two weeks after the end of the winter semester 2021/2022. Further information on the collection of contact data can be found in §§7 and 22 of the HmbSARS-CoV-2-EinämmungsVO. The general regulations on data protection must be observed.

    •    Do I have register for courses?
    Before entering a course room, all participants must register for this course via a QR code "May I come in" or another predefined system.

    •    Does StartING@TUHH take place in presence for first semester students?
    The 50 tutorials (groups) of the StartING@TUHH programme take place in presence. Depending on how the pandemic progresses, we may switch to a digital format. However, the StartING@TUHH tutorials will be offered and take place regardless of the format.


  • Will the courses be held digitally and in person?
    The winter semester 2021/2022 will take place in attendance between 01.10.2021 and 31.03.2022. The teaching schedule may be adjusted again depending on the pandemic situation. Courses with more than 200 participants will also be streamed and supplemented with digital offerings.


  • How does the practical course work in this semester?  

    Please refer to the specific information provided by the lecturers.
  • Are the learning rooms, for example those in the main building A, accessible or not?
    The learning rooms in building A can be booked and used. Wearing a medical mouth-nose protection is compulsory. Booking requests for the learning rooms should be sent to raumanfrage(at)


  • Are there other distance regulations by location, for example in the Audimax?
    The distance regulations must be observed in all rooms at the TU Hamburg as well as on campus. Where the distance cannot be maintained on campus, a mouth-nose protection should be worn.

The Corona situation is constantly changing worldwide. Please inform yourself about the existing travel warnings. Find out about the current political situation in your host country. In principle, affected students are obliged to inform themselves about the need for a domestic quarantine both before and after a stay abroad, if necessary by consulting the responsible health office.

Many of our partner universities, which like the TUHH have discontinued regular lectures, offer online courses instead. With ERASMUS, you only receive funding if you stay in the host country to study online or offline. Erasmus status (without funding), on the other hand, is also possible for purely virtual study from home, provided the partner university offers this.

If the exchange is switched from present to online, there are provisions to cushion the financial consequences. However, if the stay has to be interrupted at short notice, normal funding is not possible.

In the case of funding through DAAD programmes, PROMOS or ISAP, quarantine costs and scholarships for online-only studies may be paid if this is offered to a sufficient extent. A later entry to continue the online studies in presence at the host university is also eligible for funding.

Given the background of offering a large part of the courses in the winter semester in attendance in compliance with the corresponding Corona regulations, a difficult situation arises in particular for international students who have been vaccinated with non-recognised vaccines.
The resulting question of the free use of Corona tests has now been resolved positively: International students will continue to have the opportunity to be tested free of charge. This is at federal expense and is limited until 31.12.2021. The Coronavirus Testing Ordinance of the BMG, which was published in the Federal Gazette on 21.09.2021 (, refers to the relevant target group in § 4a:

§ 4a Testing of vaccine-naïve and segregated persons.

The following asymptomatic persons are entitled to testing by means of PoC antigen tests:
